Yoga
Letting go through the body.
A series of books, teachings, and resources exploring yoga, meditation, breathwork, the Yoga Sutras, the Vani Kosha, and the path of awakening.
We spend much of life learning how to become someone. Practice begins the journey of discovering what remains when we learn to let go.
Human beings learn by drawing distinctions. We learn names, identities, categories, roles, beliefs, and boundaries that allow us to navigate the world. Those distinctions are useful, but over time they can become mistaken for absolute separation.
The Practice of Unlearning explores the methods through which those assumptions can be examined, loosened, and eventually released. Yoga brings letting go into the body. Meditation brings letting go into the mind. Breathwork moves across the threshold between voluntary and involuntary experience. The Yoga Sutras provide an ancient map of practice and liberation, while the Vani Kosha offers another language for examining the phenomenology of awakening.
Unlearning does not mean erasing knowledge or abandoning the distinctions required to live a human life. It means learning to recognize which boundaries describe useful differences and which have been mistaken for fundamental separation.
The body, breath, attention, language, and identity each provide a place from which holding can become visible and release can be practiced.
Letting go through the body.
Letting go through the mind.
Exploring the bridge between voluntary and involuntary experience.
An ancient map of practice, identification, and liberation.
A language for distinctions within the experience of awakening.
The release of identification and remembrance of the larger self.
Each work in the series approaches the larger practice from a different direction, offering language, context, and methods that can be carried into teaching and daily life.
The Vani Kosha Guide to the Yoga Sutras and Awakening
A practical and experiential guide to the Yoga Sutras for yoga instructors, students, meditators, breathwork practitioners, and seekers. The book explores the methods beneath the Sutras through the phenomenological language of the Vani Kosha and the lived experience of awakening.
The work follows the movement from learning, through identification, into discrimination, release, and recognition, helping readers approach the Sutras not merely as philosophy to memorize, but as a map of practice.
In DevelopmentSociety teaches us how to become someone. Practice allows us to examine how that someone was assembled.
A child learns names, categories, ownership, roles, expectations, and the boundaries through which the world becomes navigable. Eventually the description can become confused with the one being described. Yoga, meditation, breathwork, and contemplative inquiry create different opportunities to notice that identification and loosen the demand that it remain fixed.
The purpose is not to destroy distinction. A hand is different from a foot while both remain the same body. One wave is distinguishable from another without becoming something other than ocean. The deeper work is learning to see difference without automatically turning difference into separation.
